Elizabeth J. Perry is Henry Rosovsky Professor of Government at Harvard University and Director of the Harvard-Yenching Institute and author of ANYUAN: Minging China’s Revolutionary Tradition. Other recent books include Mao’s Invisible Hand: The Political Foundation of Adaptive Governance in China; Patrolling the Revolution: Worker Militias, Citizenship, and the Modern Chinese State; and Chinese Society: Change, Conflict and Resistance.
